Welcome To

Unfurl Art Therapy.

Life is not always easy, is it?

Sometimes it feels overwhelming, with a jumble of thoughts in our head which can’t be switched off. Sometimes we can’t sleep... Sometimes we're unhappy in our relationships. Sometimes we feel spiky and irritable - then guilty for hurting the people we love. Sometimes we feel flat and empty. Or we wonder what we should be doing with our lives. Sometimes going it alone is too hard...

Everyone needs some back-up from time-to-time.

Would you like to talk to a professional?

I am a fully qualified psychotherapist with an MSc in Creative Art Psychotherapy and a BA (Hons) in Integrative Counselling & Art Therapy. My recent Masters thesis explored the impact Covid / Lockdown had on Adolescents at the very stage of their developmental journey which requires them to interact with their peers in order to form their identity.

I am fully accredited with the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. (IACP)

Sessions are available for adults and young people.

Clients come to me who are grieving, feeling depressed, anxious, or don't know what they feel but know something isn't right. I also work with clients entangled in or recovering from toxic relationships, particularly Narcissistic Abuse. Often these clients feel stuck. Or they've been told by their partner that they are the problem / they are the reason the relationship is not working. For lots of different reasons clients feel that they are broken... so they come to therapy to be 'fixed'.

Newsflash - you are most definitely not broken!! You are beautiful YOU - you just have some 'stuff' that needs to be looked at. (I didn't say you were perfect!!)

I have seen the benefits of using art and talk therapy as a way of guiding clients back to their internal world after many years ignoring themselves and focusing on others. Well it's time for YOU. And I should mention we'll probably have a good laugh along the way. It's not all doom and gloom in the therapy room!!!

"But I'm No Good at Art!!"

Most of my clients start by saying exactly that. Don't worry - It's NOT about creating 'good' or 'beautiful' art. Sometimes what needs to be expressed is NOT pretty!

'What can I expect at an Art Therapy session?'

Firstly, we will talk and you can tell me about what's happening in your life that feels difficult. I might ask you to draw a picture of that big knot of tension you say you feel in your stomach! Or the rage you feel. Or the emptiness. And then we can look at it  and talk about it and work out what needs to be done for that poor knot or rage or emptiness. What does it need? And as you look at it there on the page you now have a bit of space from your 'stuff' which in itself can often be such a relief. Now we can ask what would help to soothe it and to soothe you. Art has a way of expressing what previously could not be put into words and guide us to the answers we need.

Give it a go - what have you got to lose?!

P.S Stick-people drawings welcome here.

And by the way, if you try art and feel it's not for you - don't worry - we can still do some really lovely work together.

Below is a tongue-in-cheek video I made to give you an idea what might happen at an Art Therapy session!
